About Us
Shane Steer is a commercial fisherman who holds a Fishing Master IV ship’s ticket and is the proud owner/operator of the Ocean’s Edge II (formerly called the Genesis I). His wife Lela takes care of the paperwork end of the business, while his three children Dayton (14), Seamus (14), and Marleigh (11) help out on the boat and with the maintenance of the fishing gear. Dayton and Seamus got their first taste of deckhanding when they went out on the 2020 prawn season with their dad.
We believe that wild-caught seafood is healthier than its farmed alternative due to its more diverse diet and freedom of range. We also believe that the methods by which we harvest wild-caught seafood should not damage the ocean floor and should aid in the sustainability of our commercial fishing industry, therefore we only fish by hook-and-line or trap.
Our first boat was a wood troller called the Ocean’s Edge. After owning and operating the Ocean’s Edge successfully for five years, Shane made the decision to sell the boat and buy a fibreglass boat called the Genesis I. In May of 2021, we officially changed the name of the vessel to the Ocean’s Edge II and gave her a proper christening, champagne bottle and all!
We are preparing for a busy 2023 fishing season and are looking forward to providing our customers with quality seafood at affordable prices - seafood delivered directly from our boat to your table.
